Warmonger Gameday Review's Secret Weapon Washes Part 1

Secret Weapon

Well hello their Warmonger’s! This is the first of a two part review for Secret Weapon Miniatures Washes. The first part is a written review. Now I know that is not a normal thing to see out of warmonger but I’m trying to expand here a bit so please bear with me. The second will be a full out video review that is being worked on atm.

So on to the review…

First off their needs to be a little background on the washes of Secret Weapon and how they came to be. Back in the day a good dude on YouTube by the name of Les created a series of washes. These washes were labeled AwsomePaintJob washes and were a huge hit. People all over the place wanted them and that was the problem. He was a one man show and could not keep up the demand, and he also wanted focus on his painting…and BTW he’s good. Most of the painting community was hurt by this because wash painters like myself loved his product but, at the same time we all understood. After I heard that he was no longer going to sell them I started going to other washes but they just were not as good. Then I heard Secret Weapon had gotten the rights to sell them. SECRET WEAPON TO THE RESCUE!!! I was so freaking happy. I’m not lying when I say this…IMO these are the best washes on the market. I was jumping for joy…I then went and got some more washed to add to my collection. Now what’s even better is that SW is expanding on the washes…adding more colors using the same formal. Now im in heaven!

Now that you know a little about the background let’s talk about the washes.

Secret Weapon Wash Colors

Like I said before IMO Secret Weapon has the best washes on the market. The reason I say this is because how they are formulated. Most washed are used for one reason and one reason only…to shade or to create shadow. A normal wash can do this very well but not much more than that. But Secret Weapon washes can do that plus more. What do I mean about that? Simple…it’s a wash and paint all in one. You can use it to shade like a normal wash and it works just as good or better or you can use it to Highlight, tint another color, use it in paint instead of water to shade and thin at the same time. Use it with pigments to create interesting effects and that’s all the applications I have found…I bet you can find more.

Now I know you’re asking how you can use it as a thinner. Well the way the product is created it does not use pigment like normal paints and washes from other companies. The color instead comes from inks and matte medium with water, and flow improver, this allows the ink to flow in the cracks and the matte medium allows the ink to be applied as a very thin layer paint. I have used this to highlight rusted metal and ghost like appearances on figures in the past.

Another good thing about these washes is if you every want to use the technique call zenithal highlighting these washes make it very easy to do. I’m not going to go into major detail how this technique works but if you do a search on the net you will find all the info you need about it. The basic’s of this is that the technique uses washes to achieve a shadowed look or as some would say a more realistic look. You do that by using layer after layer of washes or glazes to get the look you want. These washes make it very easy!

Secret Weapon Wash Color #2

So I would suggest that if you’re looking for a washes look at Secret Weapon…IMO they are the best on the market…

Now this is it for the first review…next comes the video review on the washes…they will be about very soon…till then…keep washing those mini’s!

Till Next Time...
